Active Claremont presents: W.M. Keck Professor char miller may 15, 2025, 7 pm in the grove room at the Hughes center
Professor Char Miller is the W.M. Keck Professor of Environmental Analysis and History at Pomona College in Claremont CA. An award-winning teacher and writer, Miller’s work reflects his fascination with all things environmental, including Classes on U.S. environmental history, Water in the U.S. West, and public lands management. his recent books include - Burn Scars: A Documentary History of Fire Suppression, From Colonial Origins to the Resurgence of Cultural Burning - Natural Consequences: Intimate Essays for a Planet in Peril Professor miller has written extensively for such national media as the Guardian, Los Angeles Times, and the Washington Post, and has appeared on NPR, abc news and international print and electronic media. the wildfires in los angeles have caused a heightened concern among the residents of claremont and neighboring cities. Professor miller will be discussing the dilemmas and the natural consequences of how and where we live in this area, the effects of climate change, current policies and their costs, prevention and management methods, living more sustainably and how people can make a difference.
